Thanksgiving Volunteer Opportunities

Thanksgiving is a time of the year in which many organizations have a higher need for volunteers. There are many opportunities available to help out, including events both before and on Thanksgiving Day. 

 

First Congregational United Church of Christ Thanksgiving Dinner
Thursday, Nov. 26  |  12 - 3pm


First Congregational United Church of Christ is having their annual Thanksgiving Dinner from 12pm-3pm on November 26th. They are in need of volunteers to serve, set up, and clean up. The church is located at 1609 University Avenue. Those interested in volunteering can call 608-233-9751 or email outreach@firstcongmadison.org

 

Berbee Derby Thanksgiving Day Run Walk
Thursday, Nov. 26  |  8am


Love the thrill of the race but want to save your hamstrings? The Berbee Derby needs you on Thanksgiving day! All volunteers receive a free 2015 Berbee Derby long-sleeved T-shirt! Information on each volunteer area is provided below—simply click VolunteerNow! to sign up. The Berbee Derby is being held at the intersection of Fish Hatchery Road and East Cheryl Parkway. Volunteer Raffle — Win a Trek Bicycle or an iPad! There are a number of other fabulous prizes too! To be eligible, you must sign up and perform a volunteer job. All confirmed volunteers who perform their assigned jobs will be entered in the post-race raffle. (Winners will be notified by email and receive their prizes in the mail.)

 

Turkey Trot Madison 5K

United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Dane County will be the official charity partner for the Madison Turkey Trot! The Turkey Trot is a 5K Run/Walk/Roll that will take place at 9:00 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day (Thursday, November 26th, 2015). To make this a successful event, they need volunteers to help from 7:00 a.m. - 10:45 a.m. with a variety of tasks such as, course set up, check-in/registration and course marshaling. Boys and Girls Club of Dane County Give Thanks Event
Monday, Nov. 23 and/or Tuesday, Nov. 24


The BGCDC is looking for volunteers for their 4th annual Give Thanks Event. The volunteer slots are for Monday November 23rd and Tuesday November 24th. Volunteers on Monday will be doing basket stuffing and food prep. Volunteers are Tuesday will be doing dinner set up, serving, and clean up. Elver Park & Theresa Terrace Thanksgiving Dinner
Thursday, Nov. 19  |  6 - 8pm


Join the Elver Park and Teresa Terrace Neighborhood Centers as they host their Annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner on November 19th from 6 - 8pm at Elver Park Neighborhood Center (1201 McKenna Blvd., Madison). In an effort to build capacity in Southwest Madison, they hope this dinner serves as an extension of their programs and mission to engage families and the community in fulfilling their potential. Goodman Community Center Food Drives – Copps

Greet shoppers and encourage donations of turkeys for Thanksgiving Baskets. Shoppers can purchase turkeys in the store and drop them off with you! This is a great opportunity to help spread the word about the Thanksgiving Basket program and ensure we have enough turkeys for 3000 families! Each shift can accommodate 4 people.
