Drop-In Volunteer Sessions & Service Days

Do you want to make a difference but do not have the right schedule to commit to a regular volunteer opportunity? No Problem! Join us each month for our Drop–In Volunteering Sessions or our Service Days.

Drop-In Volunteer Sessions

Every month, the Morgridge Center will host a drop-in volunteer sessions where students can come and help with a project for a community non-profit. Students can feel free to stop by at anytime during the session and stay for as long as they’d like. It's a great way to meet friends, make a difference, and learn how you can get more involved.

What types of projects do you do?
Each month we host a different project. Past projects have included making Valentines for children at the Ronald McDonald House and assembling reusable t-shirt bags for a local food pantry.

When and where are drop in service days?
Drop-In volunteering takes place on the second Thursday of each month from 4:00 – 6:00 pm in the Red Gym.

The dates for Drop-In Volunteer Sessions for the 2009-2010 school year are:
September 10th, October 8th, November 12th, December 10th, February 11th, March 11th , April 8th, and May 6th.

Next Drop-In Volunteer Session: December 10th, 2009
Location: Red Gym
Time: 4-6 pm
Description: TBA

Service Days

In addition to our drop-in volunteer sessions, we also host a service day each month. The goal is that if a student likes the drop in session project, then they can take the next step the following week and volunteer in the community.

  • A Morgridge Center student staff member leads the group of volunteers.
  • Students will meet at the Morgridge Center and receive transportation to the site.
  • The chosen site will deal with issues relating to the given month’s theme, which are centered on the United Nation’s Millennium Campaign called End Poverty 2015. The volunteering will either involve dropping off completed materials from an earlier drop-in service event or assisting different programs or needs of the site.
  • Service-Days will take place on the third Friday of every month and the time will vary depending on the given month’s site. If you are passionate about a social issue, these days are great way to help make a difference!
  • The dates for Drop-In Volunteer Sessions for the 2009-2010 school year are: September 18th, October 16th, November 20th, December 18th, February 19th , March 19th, April 16th
Next Service Day: November 20th, 2009

This month the Morgridge Center will be addressing the issue of hunger. The description for the Service Day is listed below. Please note that the time listed includes travel time. Transportation will be provided by the Morgridge Center’s Volunteer Transportation Program.

Location: The River Food Pantry
Time: 4:00 – 8:15 p.m.
Description: Volunteers will be helping serve the pantry’s turkey dinner, distributing Thanksgiving baskets, and doing general work in the food pantry.
