2020 Recipient West High School Tutoring Center Team

West High School Tutoring Center team, 2020 Badger Volunteers Team Award
(L-R): Khoa (Harry) Le, Clarence Harley, Kenneth Mui

The West High School Tutoring Center team consists of Kenneth Mui, Khoa (Harry) Le, and Clarence Harley. Through the Badger Volunteers program, the team served as Resource Hall Tutors and volunteered their time every Tuesday at the high school.

The team demonstrates commitment to making a difference by always showing up 20 minutes early to ensure they are there to help any students as they arrive. Additionally, through reflecting on their volunteer experiences, they constantly work to identify ways to improve their ability to help students understand English and math concepts through their tutoring support.

The team has shown clear impact in their students’ lives. They recalled a time where they were tutoring students who only knew basic English. The students loved the team and told them, “See you tomorrow.” As soon as the students said this, the team looked at each other in confusion because they only volunteered once a week on Tuesdays. Unfortunately, the team had to tell the students that they would see them the following week instead.

The Be the Change Bash is the Morgridge Center’s annual end-of-the-semester celebration. The Bash honors students, staff, faculty and community partners who contribute their time and talents to both the community and the UW-Madison campus through service.

The event also includes the Morgridge Center’s annual award ceremony.
