Badger Volunteers Hosts First Ever Ed Social

Posted on March 6, 2018

Badger Volunteers (BV) hosted its first ever “Ed Social” on March 1 at the School of Education. Ed Socials are a play on the traditional Education Session or Ed Session that is a regular part of the Badger Volunteers program. Ed Sessions and socials provide Badger Volunteers with opportunities to deepen their understanding of community engagement.

The first Ed Social was a collaborative event with RecSports. Coordinator of Competitive Sports Tori Landron helped co-facilitate a session called BV ADAPT. BV ADAPT challenged students to explore their own preconceptions of ability and get first-hand experience with what it’s like to participate in adaptive sports with a disability.

  • “The least commendable purpose of acquiring knowledge…is to apply it to one’s own advancement – to achieve worldly success. A higher purpose is to fit one to live the intellectual life…A third and the highest purpose of acquiring knowledge is to use it for the benefit of mankind.” — Former UW President Charles Van Hise
