On Jan. 25 at 7 a.m., registration opens for this semester of Badger Volunteers, the University of Wisconsin – Madison’s largest student-led volunteer program. Badger Volunteers’ registration is open to all UW-Madison undergraduates and graduates. Registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Badger Volunteers is a semester-long program that pairs student teams with community organizations to volunteer 1-4 hours a week. Through consistent volunteering, students and community partners can foster meaningful, lasting connections to create a mutually-beneficial impact. To travel to the volunteer sites, students walk, bus or use Zipcar, B-Cycle or cabs provided by the Morgridge Center for Public Service.
This semester, there are volunteer opportunities with over 80 community partners around Madison. Community partners involved this semester include Centro Hispano of Dane County, Gio’s Garden, REACH-A-Child, Wisconsin Environmental Initiative and more.
The volunteer opportunities are organized under three categories: public health, education and sustainability. However, students with all educational interests can find an opportunity that gives them real-world experience in their field of interest.
Whether it be through working alongside scientists to protect Lake Wingra, tutoring kids after school or personalizing playlists for individuals with Alzheimer’s, Badger Volunteers has an opportunity for all majors.
Badger Volunteers leave the program with a greater understanding of the Madison community, new friends and even a free t-shirt.
