Summer Badger Volunteers: Beyond Campus Borders

Posted on August 8, 2019 | By Xai Xiong

This past summer nearly 125 University of Wisconsin–Madison students shared their time with community organizations across Madison.

Through the Badger Volunteers program, students volunteered with the Linda & Gene Farley Center for Peace, Justice and Sustainability, LGBT Books to Prisoners, Madison International Partners and more.

While the Badger Volunteers’ summer session lasts just eight weeks compared to eleven during the fall and spring, community partners still recognize the important contributions of each team.

Registration for the fall Badger Volunteers session opens on Friday, Sept. 6 at 7:00 a.m. Spots are allocated on a first come, first served basis. In fact, interested students can already visit the Badger Volunteers website to see what options are available for fall.

Don’t miss out on this opportunity to develop and cultivate meaningful connections that bridge the gap between campus and community.

Check out some photos from our Badger Volunteers in action this past summer:

  • “The least commendable purpose of acquiring knowledge…is to apply it to one’s own advancement – to achieve worldly success. A higher purpose is to fit one to live the intellectual life…A third and the highest purpose of acquiring knowledge is to use it for the benefit of mankind.” — Former UW President Charles Van Hise
