Tackling Challenges of Civic Engagement through Higher Education with Vice Provost Zumbrunnen

Posted on April 8, 2022 | By Erin Gretzinger

GridgeFridge — the Morgridge Center for Public Service podcast — released the 10th episode of its second season about the challenges and responsibilities of civic engagement with Vice Provost for Teaching and Learning John Zumbrunnen.

Zumbrunnen, who has been a faculty member of the UW-Madison Political Science Department for over a decade, provides leadership and support for UW–Madison’s teaching and learning mission across campus as the vice provost. With a deep commitment to supporting the learning of the next generation of voters and political leaders, Zumbrunnen has taught community-based learning courses that work with communities across the globe, represented the university’s interests in legislative policy and helped guide the campus community through complex transitions amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

In this episode of GridgeFridge, we dive into Zumbrunnen’s work as the Vice Provost for Teaching and Learning, the challenges facing young people hoping to engage in the current political climate, and how students can become civically engaged leaders on campus and beyond.
