Over the course of the past year, a team of three UW-Madison students worked to create a mentorship venture by pairing with other Asian American students at Madison West High School.
Through weekly lunch visits, various guest speakers and conversations focused on helping students become more comfortable within their cultural identity, this team created a program that is sure to have a long-term impact on students throughout the rest of their adolescent years.
This video overview provides viewers with the necessary background information on the project, featuring interviews with all members of the Cultivating Connections team, including their advisor, Kevin Wong.
Viewers will learn about how the framework of the project has shifted over time, the motivations behind working with high school students and what the team hopes the long-term impacts of their project will be.
This is only the beginning of helping young students to embrace their cultural identity, and it starts by cultivating connections.
