National Voter Registration Day is Here. Make Sure You’re Ready to Vote!

Posted on September 12, 2025

Tuesday, Sept. 16 is National Voter Registration Day and detailed below are a few different ways you can engage with this important holiday. So if you are planning on celebrating or just want to learn more about how to be civically engaged, keep reading!

The first step is to register to vote. While it may seem like a simple task, it can be tricky for some people. Easy-access information makes the process as smooth as possible and visiting the polls an enjoyable experience.

Another option is to register at the front desk of any city agency or you can register at the City Clerk’s Office (up to two weeks before an election). Find specific locations and read more here. If there are more than 20 days before Election Day, you can register by mail.

For students who plan on using their out-of-state drivers license or Wiscard, those don’t count as a valid form of identification for voting. As an eligible student, you are able to obtain a voter ID at the Wiscard office in Union South for free. Visit the office anytime Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. to receive your voter ID card and make voting on election day stress-free.

You also can get your voter ID card printed at the Morgridge Center for Public Service. Either visit the center during operating hours or ask for someone at the front desk to help you print out your voter ID card.

Stay up to date on your voting knowledge. Visit vote.wisc.edu for helpful information on voter eligibility, voting for out-of-state students, voter IDs and more.

Since it’s a holiday, it certainly calls for a celebration! Celebrate National Voter Registration Day with BadgersVote! You can find updates and other fun civic engagement content–including swag giveaways on BadgersVote’s Instagram.
