Early Career Fellows
The Early Career Fellows for Community-engaged Scholarship program is a new, yearlong learning community for staff and graduate students at UW–Madison with an interest in conducting high-quality, collaborative community-engaged scholarship. Community-engaged scholarship (CES) is defined as: teaching, research, and scholarly activities that are performed in mutually beneficial collaboration with communities and community members to address community needs and support innovative teaching and research.
This program recognizes the important role staff and graduate students play in many community-based learning courses and community-based research projects. The program therefore offers a supportive space in which participants can explore and expand their own knowledge of best practices in community-engaged scholarship through their unique professional lenses. Topics addressed in the program include: community-based research methods, community-based learning pedagogies, and navigating professional choices as a community-engaged scholar.
Through participation in the Early Career Fellows for Community-engaged Scholarship program, participants will:
- Develop a deeper understanding of the theory and practice of quality community-engaged scholarship (CES)
- Reflect upon and make progress on their own goals and projects related to CES
- Cultivate a community of support and shared learning amongst a network of engaged scholars
- Build comfort and confidence to act as resources and ambassadors for CES across campus
