The Dane County Farmers’ Market

The Dane County Farmers Market strives to make fresh local food available to everyone. Year-round, they implement their EBT program which allows families and individuals to buy farmers’ market products with their SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits. Volunteers are needed each Saturday to help provide this service. Volunteers also spend their time answering questions and ensuring a positive market experience for all customers. Sign up as often as you would like, and it’s great if you can commit to helping out on a regular basis.

Fair Share CSA Coalition

Fair Share is a non-profit that is dedicated to a future where all families have access to locally-produced, organic food from small family farms. There are opportunities to volunteer in administrative, marketing, and outreach/communication roles as well as special events such as Bike the barns, Find Your Farm, and more.

Henry Vilas Zoo

Henry Vilas Zoo is dedicated to exceptional animal care and conserving wildlife through local engagement and global partnerships. Volunteers have the opportunity to work in guest services, conservation education, events crew, and group volunteer opportunities.

Madison Area Food Pantry Gardens

The Madison Area Food Pantry Garden’s mission is to supply local food pantries with first-choice, nutritious and culturally relevant vegetables. On average, they donate 100,000 pounds of produce every year coming out to a whopping two million pounds donated since the inception of the gardens. Volunteers are always in need to help plant, weed, and harvest at the ten gardens that are scattered throughout Dane County.

The People’s Farm

Formerly known as F.H. Kings Student Farm, The People’s Farm is a UW-Madison focused organization dedicated to sustainable agriculture and community development. With a focus on inclusivity, they grow food with love and care, distributing it for free to the community. The People’s Farm values loyalty, community, and good food for all embodying a radical and regenerative approach. By coming together to enjoy the sun, the dirt, and each other’s company, they create spaces for all.

REAP Food Group

REAP is building a regional food system that is healthy, just, and both environmentally and economically sustainable. REAP is committed to projects that shorten the distance from farm to table, support small family farmers, encourage sustainable agriculture practices, preserve the diversity and safety of its food supply and address the food security of everyone in the community. Volunteers contribute to this goal in a variety of ways ranging from assisting at events to prepping snacks for kids.

UW Arboretum

Dedicated volunteers ensure the continued success of the Arboretum’s ecological communities, gardens, and outreach programs. Volunteers can help with ecological restoration, gardening, plant propagation, summer day camps, Friends of the Arboretum sponsored events, citizen science, and Visitor Center services.

Wisconsin 4-H

4-H volunteers are youth and adults working together to make a difference in the lives of young people. Volunteers work with UW-Extension Youth Development professionals to develop the life skills of youth members, thus benefiting the state, employers, and the economy. Volunteers not only have the satisfaction of contributing to the future of young people, they also learn new skills that may advance their careers.

Angel’s Wish

Angel’s Wish is an all-volunteer non-profit that is dedicated to reducing animal overpopulation, rehoming companion animals, and raising awareness of animal welfare issues in South Central Wisconsin. Volunteers are always needed to assist with the adoption center, fostering animals, special events, administration, and grant writing.

Madison Children’s Museum

Volunteer at Madison Children’s Museum by helping out at the rooftop garden. Tasks may include assisting with educational programs or helping maintain the chicken coop. Other duties will be assisting with upkeep of the garden beds including planting, weeding, and picking vegetables.

Three Gaits, Inc.

Volunteer at Three Gaits – a horse farm 20 minutes south of Madison – a wonderful place to pass some time! A good fit would be someone that likes to get up early, enjoys the fresh air, and doesn’t mind working hard and getting dirty. Tasks include feeding horses, bedding stalls, and cleaning barn aisles.

Arts for All

Arts for All, the state organization on arts and disabilities, has a number of opportunities available that involve assisting instructors in various visual art, music, or movement classes by supporting participants in program activities. Volunteer Roles may include classroom assistants, choir volunteers, administrative support, specialized administrative support, and event support.

ArtWorking

ArtWorking is a Madison area nonprofit program that provides career development and support for artists & entrepreneurs with disabilities. Volunteers may or may not work directly their artists and are welcome to share other skills in order to help out (for example: framing construction, digital media support, etc.). They also welcome volunteers to assist in community events such as local art fairs.

Bayview Foundation

The Bayview Foundation supports its culturally diverse, low-income families in realizing their aspirations by providing affordable housing, fostering cultural pride, and building community through the arts, education, and recreation. Individual volunteers can provide program support while groups can assist with special projects and events.

Boys and Girls Club

The Boys and Girls Club of Dane County’s mission is to inspire and empower all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring adults. Volunteers directly impact the daily lives of Dane County children by tutoring, mentoring, and teaching or facilitating the many educational programs that they have.

Bubbler

The Bubbler at Madison Public Library is a hub that connects artists to the community and the community to artists through free, hands-on making, exhibitions, and community-wide events.

Oak Park Place

Volunteer opportunities available on an ongoing basis working with the senior resident population at Oak Park Place. Whether you have a specific talent or just enjoy interacting with seniors, there’s an opportunity for you. Share your gifts and make a difference in the lives of seniors.

Madison Senior Center

Madison Senior Center’s mission is to promote successful aging through an evidence based approach. Gain applicable skills as a front desk receptionist, special event and fundraising team member, or marketing and media team member.

Catholic Multicultural Center

Volunteers monitor the lab, ensure that lab users go through the proper sign-in process, and follow all rules. Volunteers are also available to any guest to assist with using the computers and related software. This may include one-on-one tutoring on basics from using Microsoft Word or opening an e-mail account to more advanced concepts such as making a simple chart on Excel. Volunteers are welcome to use the computers during their volunteer shift, and student volunteers are able to work on assignments while they volunteer. Volunteers should have intermediate computer skills (you do not need to be a computer expert). Our lab uses Windows XP PCs with Microsoft Office 2010. No training required. Volunteers should have intermediate computer skills with Windows PCs and Microsoft Office.

Literacy Network

One in seven Dane County adults struggles with low literacy (55,000 people); the Literacy Network strives combat this by teaching writing, reading, communication, and computer skills to Dane County adults so that they can achieve financial security, well-being, and deeper engagement with their families and the community. Volunteers are needed in the Spring, Summer, and Fall semesters to assist with one on one tutoring for adults in reading, writing, speaking english, basic computer skills, and GED prep.

Sierra Club – John Muir Chapter

The Sierra Club Wisconsin’s voice for the nation’s oldest, largest and most influential grassroots environmental organization. Volunteer needs include office work, website maintenance and organization, social media administrators, and completing Sierra Club work hours for Community Shares of Wisconsin.


Adult Role Models in Science (ARMS) @ UW-Madison WISCIENCE

ARMS encourages teachers to involve students in the process of science, using hands-on, inquiry based activities. This is difficult to do with one adult in a classroom full of students with varying abilities and interests. ARMS volunteers serve in a variety of roles to help all students participate in science. They also help to make student learning more meaningful by connecting science concepts to the application of those concepts in the community. ARMS Volunteers include university faculty and staff, university students in the sciences and science education, and scientists from business, industry and government agencies. Tasks include working with groups of varying size, assisting with outdoors group field trips, developing and presenting demonstrations, and creating activities related to the volunteer’s field of expertise.

Bayview Foundation

Greater University Tutoring Service (GUTS)

GUTS offers free tutoring and mentoring to hundreds of students and university affiliates each semester. There is always a need for volunteer tutors in areas ranging from specific classes to conversational language practice to general studying tips and techniques.

Kennedy Heights Community Center

All of our children and youth programs welcome volunteers to assist with programming needs.  These opportunities range from helping with our youngest children in the early childhood program to helping work with our middle school boys and girls groups. Volunteers can tutor, mentor, act as a reading buddy, teach a special skill, coach, and much more.

Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR)

MSCR is the public recreation provider for the residents of Madison focusing on the health, fitness, and overall well-being of its citizens. Volunteer opportunities are offered year round in a variety of disciplines including downhill ski and snowboard volunteers, after school programs, food pantry assistants, adapted water walking, pontoon boat drivers, and the list keeps going on.

Neighborhood House

Neighborhood House is Madison’s oldest community center and is a welcoming space for people of all backgrounds and strives to create opportunities for the Greater Madison area. Their mission is to provide high-quality programming and social services that facilitate the growth of a diverse, responsible, and welcoming community.

Old World Wisconsin—Wisconsin Historical Society

The museum’s more than 60 historic structures range from ethnic farmsteads with furnished houses and rural outbuildings, to a crossroads village with its traditional small-town institutions. The efforts of countless historians have preserved an amazing slice of true Americana — one that will be enjoyed for generations to come. Today, Old World Wisconsin’s historic farm and village buildings comprise the world’s largest museum dedicated to the history of rural life. By volunteering your time you’ll meet interesting people, have fun, and help them tell the story of Wisconsin while learning more about our state’s colorful past.

Schools of Hope

Tutors meet one-on-one or with small groups of students at least an hour each week. Tutoring happens at the school, Monday through Friday, either during the student’s study hall, learning lab, classroom periods, or after school. During this time, tutors will provide their student with academic guidance including assignment completion, test preparation, study skills, organization and time management skills.

YWCA Madison

YWCA Madison is on a mission to eliminate racism, empower women, stand up for social justice, support families, and strengthen communities. YWCA’s children’s program needs volunteers that can assist providing developmentally appropriate social and recreational activities for homeless children sheltered, with their families, at the YWCA or participating in one of our family housing programs.

Foundation for Madison Public Schools

The Foundation is committed to supporting the education of every child by raising private funds, awarding grants, developing community partnerships, and advocating for Madison’s public schools.

Gay Straight Alliance For Safe Schools

GSAFE works with educational staff, families, LGBT youth and Gay-Straight Alliances in local schools to create school environments where all LGBT youth and students thrive. They train educational staff on creating safe and supportive school communities and develop the leadership of LGBT students. Volunteers are needed year-round for events such as: Celebration of Leadership Banquet in May; Trick or Trot 5k Walk/Run in October; and throughout the year with semi-regular mailings.

Wisconsin Women’s Network

The Wisconsin Women’s Network Policy Institute provides hands-on leadership, communications, and policy advocacy training to a select group of Wisconsin women every year. Our Policy Institute aims to grow the number of Wisconsin women who have the confidence, skills, and strategic know-how to successfully engage in their local and statewide communities on policy issues that matter to Wisconsin women and girls.

YWCA Madison

YWCA Madison is on a mission to eliminate racism, empower women, stand up for social justice, support families, and strengthen communities. YWCA’s children’s program needs volunteers that can assist providing developmentally appropriate social and recreational activities for homeless children sheltered, with their families, at the YWCA or participating in one of our family housing programs.

Lussier Community Education Center

Join the Lussier Community Education Center in creating the remarkable opportunity to support citizen voices, experimental education, and community and youth empowerment in Madison. Engineer volunteers will help record and edit shows for our community radio station, WWMV-LP 95.5. Engineers will be helping with running the soundboard, working with announcers to record content and doing post edits.

The Wonder of Physics

The mission of The Wonders of Physics (TWoP) program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is to generate interest in physics among people of all ages and backgrounds. TWoP shows are fast-paced, engaging, and educational physics programs, filled with demonstrations that help people better understand the physics in the world around them, while having fun at the same time! Duties for Show Presenter volunteers will include presenting a wide variety of physics demonstrations to audiences and explaining the science behind them.

Aldo Leopold Nature Center

The Aldo Leopold Nature Center is designed to engage, educate, and empower the next generation of stewards of the land for a healthy, happy, and sustainable future.

Madison Parks offers numerous opportunities, coordinated by Parks staff and volunteer groups, throughout the year to help make our parks more beautiful.

Department of Natural Resources: State Natural Areas (SNAs) Volunteer Program

Help us care for some of our state’s most pristine public lands – State Natural Area. Encourage native plant and animal communities to thrive by cutting brush, pulling and spraying invasives, collecting seeds, monitoring rare species and preparing fire breaks. Show up for a day or become a steward responsible for all volunteer activities at a SNA – any level of participation is encouraged.

Friends of Lake Wingra

Friends of Lake Wingra came together in 1998 with an interest in improving the health of Lake Wingra through coordinated watershed management and by engaging the watershed community in stewardship of the lake and its watershed. Volunteers can participate in invasive plant control or organize a storm drain stenciling team.

Friends of the Pheasant Branch Conservancy

Friends of the Pheasant Branch Conservancy was originally created to prevent the construction of two proposed sewers through the conservancy and has since shifted to restoring habitat and educating the public about its resources. There are many volunteer opportunities including restoration, education, accessibility and use, and special events.

Lakeshore Nature Preserve

The Lakeshore Nature Preserve is a 300 acre preserve located on the northwest side of campus along the free 80 bus route. Volunteers are vital to the success of the Lakeshore Nature Preserve’s mission of maintaining a clean and safe preserve, improving biological diversity, preventing erosion, and increasing our knowledge to help improve land stewardship. Volunteer tasks include removing invasive species, maintaining trails, cleaning fire circles, conducting surveys and collecting data, as well as collecting, sowing, and planting native seeds.

They are still heavily reliant on volunteers who are interested in helping them achieve their goal of protecting local habitat, teaching the youth, and conserving local bird species.

Troy Gardens

A worker share volunteer helps the farm by working in the field, and receives a free weekly produce share in return. They offer the following worker share positions: Full Season Field Crew, Summer Season Field Crew, U-Pick Garden Crew, Farm Mower, Farm Stand Crew, and Event Crew. Worker share volunteers are an essential part of our farm. Your hard work and contribution to Troy Farm is truly valued.

Wisconsin Historical Society

The Wisconsin Historical Society is our state’s memory and foremost story teller; it is considered one of the nation’s finest historical institutions. By volunteering your time, you’ll meet interesting people, have fun and help us tell the story of Wisconsin while learning more about our state’s colorful past. Some opportunities include volunteering at the Library and Archives, Museum Archaeology Program (MAP), Museums and Historic Sites, and National History Day.

Wisconsin Veterans Museum

For over 100 years, the Wisconsin Veterans Museum has shared the stories of our state’s military veterans. This award-winning museum and research center chronicles the history-shaping exploits of Wisconsin’s veterans from the Civil War to present day. They have many opportunities for volunteers ranging from museum tour guides to oral history transcribers, and everything in between.

Canopy Center

Canopy Center is a child abuse and prevention agency in Dane County. Canopy Center also offers a number of other direct service volunteer opportunities for students interested in social work, counseling, human services, or other related fields.

Community Justice, Inc

A non-profit law firm working to close the justice gap in South Central Wisconsin. CJI works to make justice affordable for all. To better serve clients, CJI needs volunteer law clerks and/or clerical assistance.

Sheltering Animals of Abuse Victims (SAAV)

Sheltering Animals of Abuse Victims (SAAV) is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to ending the cycle of abuse within families.  SAAV plays a unique role in this fight by recognizing the importance of animals as vital family members and arranging for their safe harbor at a time of critical need–when a domestic abuse victim seeks refuge from an abuser. Volunteers assist with grant writing and fundraising, to help staff booths at community events, or provide innovative ideas to raise community awareness.

Wisconsin Women’s Network

The Wisconsin Women’s Network is seeking volunteers to fill rolls related to task forces organized around particular issues, committee membership, investigative work to keep the organization current on relevant legal topics, event support and grant writing, among numerous other opportunities.

Agrace West Thrift Store

Agrace Thrift Store volunteers provide customer service to shoppers, cashier, merchandise items, and prepare donated items for sale. Proceeds from the Thrift Store support services provided to Agrace patients and families. Volunteers should enjoy working with the public and other volunteers as well as thrive in a busy and lively environment.

The Rainbow Project

At The Rainbow Project, we provide restorative healing and hope for young children and their families who have experienced trauma, helping them build a foundation for the mastery of life-sustaining skills.

Wisconsin Women’s Business Initiative

WWBIC focuses on women, people of color, and low-income individuals, providing direct lending and access to fair and responsible capital, quality business education, one-on-one technical business assistance and education to increase financial capability. WWBIC volunteers typically work directly with clients to support them throughout their entrepreneurship goals. Volunteers can take on roles in facilitation, guest speaking, mentorship, business plan reviewing and administrative assistance.

Agrace Hospice and Palliative Care

Volunteers are at the heart of Agrace’s mission and help us to provide the best service to patients, families, and our staff. There are many different volunteer roles to choose from depending on your skills, interests, and schedule. Some one-time opportunities are available for individuals or groups.

Gilda’s Club

Gilda’s Club provides support to those with cancer and their families. New and enthusiastic volunteers are welcomed every month for the variety of opportunities they offer.

Meriter Hospital

There are many types of volunteer opportunities available at Meriter Hospital, including: comforting families in Emergency Services; assisting patient care staff providing therapy in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation; assisting families and others in various hospital waiting rooms; helping visitors at the Information Desk; waiting on customers in the Gift and Coffee Shops; delivering mail and flowers; helping in numerous departments throughout the hospital.

UW Hospital Volunteer

Volunteers provide exceptional care and help to the patients that visit UW Hospital and Clinics on a daily basis. They help in every way from greeting people at the front door, to providing assistance to those who are hospitalized. Volunteers are able to take the time needed to offer assistance to the patients at UW Hospital and Clinics in any non-medical way to make the patients feel more welcome and more comfortable.

United Cerebral Palsy

The United Cerebral Palsy organization offers valuable services for families with varying disabilities and delays including autism, epilepsy, Down syndrome, traumatic brain injury, delays in speech, mobility and development, and more. There are many opportunities to get involved with this organization including special events ranging from Brat Fest over Memorial Day Weekend to the Turkey Trot in November as well as ongoing opportunities in Respite Care, Youth Resources, and Birth to 3 Connections.

Ronald McDonald House Charities-Madison

There’s something for everyone who wants to help at Madison’s Ronald McDonald House. Being a Ronald McDonald House Charities volunteer is easy, fun, rewarding and requires as little as a few hours a month. Engage directly with clients as an in-house volunteer or help with household chores, cooking, or yard work

Ballroom Basics for Balance

Ballroom Basics for Balance is a group balance class that uses basic dance moves to practice and enhance balance and learn to prevent falls. It’s fun as well as instructive; it includes validated pre- and post- testing to measure balance, cognitive function and quality of life. Volunteers assist with teaching class and instruction.

Millennium Soccer Club

Millennium Soccer Club was founded in 2001 with a goal of bringing affordable and accessible organized youth soccer to the city’s low-income, ethnically diverse neighborhoods. The Dane County Farmers’ Market

The Dane County Farmers Market strives to make fresh local food available to everyone. Friends of the Pheasant Branch Conservancy

Friends of the Pheasant Branch Conservancy was originally created to prevent the construction of two proposed sewers through the conservancy and has since shifted to restoring habitat and educating the public about its resources. Habitat for Humanity

Tenant Resource Center

The TRC is a nonprofit dedicated to promoting positive relations between rental housing consumers and providers throughout Wisconsin. This organization provides information and referrals, education about rental rights, and access to conflict resolution. Volunteers assist clients as housing counselors, mediators help negotiate agreements between tenants and landlords as well as provide office support for the center. Housing counselors help in the main office for 3-6 hours/week for a minimum of one year. We will train you on tenant landlord law and provide lots of support as you assist clients.

Community Action Coalition for South Central Wisconsin, Inc.

CAC Gleaners – CAC operates a food recovery program called CAC Gleanders. As a volunteer driver, you will help fight hunger by collecting pershiable foods still safe for human consumption from various restaurants, cafeterias, and delis around town. Most routes can be completed in about an hour. Volunteers can also help in the free clothing center with sorting, hanging and assisting participants make clothing selections. All items in the clothing center have been donated by others in the community.

River Food Pantry

The River is Dane County’s busiest food pantry. Services include free groceries for pickup or delivery, to-go meals, online grocery orders, mobile meals, and after-hours food lockers. Volunteers are needed to assist with the food pantry services, mobile meals program and meal prep. Specific time slots that need volunteers are listed on The River Food Pantry website.

Second Harvest Foodbank

The goal of Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin is to make sure everyone in southwestern Wisconsin has enough of the right kinds of food to live a happy and healthy life. Second Harvest distributes millions of pounds of food each year through their network of partner agencies and programs, helps people understand and apply for government programs like the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and promotes awareness in the community. Volunteers are needed to help sort and distribute food, among other things.

Society of St. Vincent de Paul

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is one of the oldest charitable organizations in the world. The organization operates the largest food pantry in Dane County. Last year we helped over 45,000 people with $1,300,000 worth of food. Volunteers are needed to stock the pantry and host our customers.

UW-Madison Food Recovery Network

The goal of FRN is to foster values of sustainability on campus and in the surrounding community. We want to reduce the amount of food that is thrown out by the dining halls by recovering extra food from the day before and bringing it to various outlets in the community to address food insecurity.

Gay Straight Alliance For Safe Schools

GSAFE works with educational staff, families, LGBT youth and Gay-Straight Alliances in local schools to create school environments where all LGBT youth and students thrive. They train educational staff on creating safe and supportive school communities and develop the leadership of LGBT students. Volunteers are needed year-round for events such as: Celebration of Leadership Banquet in May; Trick or Trot 5k Walk/Run in October; and throughout the year with semi-regular mailings.

LGBT Books to Prisoners

LGBT Books to Prisoners is a donation-funded, volunteer-run organization that sends books and other educational materials, free of charge, to incarcerated LGBTQ people across the United States. At volunteer sessions, there are a variety of tasks for volunteers to work on depending on the workflow that day and volunteers’ individual skills and comfort level. They have tasks that are mobile and ones that can be done seated. Some tasks are also more social than others.

100 Black Men of Madison

The Madison chapter was established with the concept that it would make a positive difference in the lives of area youth, especially African American males, through mentoring, education, health and wellness, and economic development programs.

Adult Role Models in Science (ARMS) @ UW-Madison WISCIENCE

ARMS encourages teachers to involve students in the process of science, using hands-on, inquiry based activities. This is difficult to do with one adult in a classroom full of students with varying abilities and interests. ARMS volunteers serve in a variety of roles to help all students participate in science. They also help to make student learning more meaningful by connecting science concepts to the application of those concepts in the community. ARMS Volunteers include university faculty and staff, university students in the sciences and science education, and scientists from business, industry and government agencies. Tasks include working with groups of varying size, assisting with outdoors group field trips, developing and presenting demonstrations, and creating activities related to the volunteer’s field of expertise.

Schools of Hope

Tutors meet one-on-one or with small groups of students at least an hour each week. Tutoring happens at the school, Monday through Friday, either during the student’s study hall, learning lab, classroom periods, or after school. During this time, tutors will provide their student with academic guidance including assignment completion, test preparation, study skills, organization and time management skills.

Individuals and groups are all needed to volunteer on Habitat construction sites. Volunteers partner with families to build homes. Other Habitat volunteer opportunities include serving as a committee member, helping in the office or working on the Green Team on landscaping projects.

Lakeshore Nature Preserve

The Lakeshore Nature Preserve is a 300 acre preserve located on the northwest side of campus along the free 80 bus route. Volunteers are vital to the success of the Lakeshore Nature Preserve’s mission of maintaining a clean and safe preserve, improving biological diversity, preventing erosion, and increasing our knowledge to help improve land stewardship. Volunteer tasks include removing invasive species, maintaining trails, cleaning fire circles, conducting surveys and collecting data, as well as collecting, sowing, and planting native seeds.

LGBT Books to Prisoners

LGBT Books to Prisoners is a donation-funded, volunteer-run organization that sends books and other educational materials, free of charge, to incarcerated LGBTQ people across the United States. At volunteer sessions, there are a variety of tasks for volunteers to work on depending on the workflow that day and volunteers’ individual skills and comfort level. They have tasks that are mobile and ones that can be done seated. Some tasks are also more social than others.

Madison Children’s Museum

Volunteer at Madison Children’s Museum by helping out at the rooftop garden. Tasks may include assisting with educational programs or helping maintain the chicken coop. Other duties will be assisting with upkeep of the garden beds including planting, weeding, and picking vegetables.

Mobility Training and Independent Living Program (MTILP)

MTILP, Inc. provides combined long-term support of daily living skills training, mobility training, vocational training and job placement for over 100 adults with disabilities in Dane County. These services are offered through supported employment, mobility training, home support and at our Day Service Program. Consider volunteering with MTILP, Inc. to enhance the quality of life for individuals with disabilities by offering your time and talent. Many different volunteer opportunities are available during weekdays including community integration trips in the Madison area.

Second Harvest Foodbank

The goal of Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin is to make sure everyone in southwestern Wisconsin has enough of the right kinds of food to live a happy and healthy life. Second Harvest distributes millions of pounds of food each year through their network of partner agencies and programs, helps people understand and apply for government programs like the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and promotes awareness in the community. Volunteers are needed to help sort and distribute food, among other things.

River Food Pantry

The River is Dane County’s busiest food pantry. Services include free groceries for pickup or delivery, to-go meals, online grocery orders, mobile meals, and after-hours food lockers. Volunteers are needed to assist with the food pantry services, mobile meals program and meal prep. Specific time slots that need volunteers are listed on The River Food Pantry website.

RSVP of Dane County

RSVP offers hundreds of volunteer opportunities that are grouped in several program areas. When you contact RSVP, one of our personal volunteer coordinators will meet with you to discuss your interests and schedule. A few volunteer opportunities include: driving services, group projects, meal delivery, and more!

Madison Senior Center

Madison Senior Center’s mission is to promote successful aging through an evidence based approach. Gain applicable skills as a front desk receptionist, special event and fundraising team member, or marketing and media team member.

UW-Madison Food Recovery Network

The goal of FRN is to foster values of sustainability on campus and in the surrounding community. We want to reduce the amount of food that is thrown out by the dining halls by recovering extra food from the day before and bringing it to various outlets in the community to address food insecurity.

AIESEC

AIESEC is a global, youth-led organization that puts together international volunteer experiences for college students. Volunteers are matched with opportunities and organizations related to their area of interest, whether that be delivering sanitation, eradicating poverty or improving literacy. AIESEC provides support for students as they prepare for their time abroad and during the duration of their service. These experiences can range from 6 weeks to 18 months and volunteers often receive a stipend as well as basic support services like food and accommodation.

Amigos de Las Américas

Amigos de Las Américas trains college students to design and lead service projects in Latin America related to areas such as public health, youth engagement and environmental sustainability. The summer or gap year programs are a full-immersion cultural exchange where participants gain hands-on experience running community development projects while living with a host family in a small to medium sized community. The Wisconsin Chapter of Amigos de Las Américas invites students to join their training program to prepare for their service time abroad.

AmeriCorps

AmeriCorps engages more than 80,000 men and women in intensive service each year through more than 15,000 nonprofits, schools, public agencies, community and faith-based groups across the country. With the AmeriCorps State and National program, members serve with national and local nonprofit and community groups to help communities tackle pressing problem while mobilizing volunteers for the organizations they serve.

City Year

City Year is an AmeriCorps program for young adults ages 17 to 24 that works to bridge the gap in high poverty communities between the support that students actually need and what their schools are designed and resourced to provide. For 11 months, City Year Americorps members work full-time alongside teachers in schools providing individualized support to at-risk students who need extra attention.
