#OurTomorrow Celebrates Service and Civic Engagement

Posted on January 30, 2018

Engagement matters.

This message is exactly what the #OurTomorrow 2018 campaign aims to foster and promote. Since its initial launch in January 2017, more than 15 universities around the nation have come together inviting students, faculty, staff and community members to share how they are having a positive impact in their communities for their shared tomorrow.

Following the 2016 presidential election, many colleges and universities witnessed an increased student interest in civic engagement. As a result, a nonpartisan channel for this energy was born through #OurTomorrow. The hashtag provides an opportunity to voice the impact that students are having in their communities, locally and globally.

In its second year, #OurTomorrow continues to highlight the profound power of young people to make change through service and civic engagement.

This year the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire, Tufts University, and Moraine Park Technical College join the University of Wisconsin – Madison, Princeton University, Stanford University, and several others in the campaign.

From January 28 through February 10, participants are encouraged to post to social media accounts about service and civic engagement using the hashtag “#OurTomorrow.” A collection of the incredible work going on throughout the country can be found on the movement’s website.

While this campaign uses social media to start the conversation, the true aim for #OurTomorrow is to inspire active engagement beyond the screen.

  • “The least commendable purpose of acquiring knowledge…is to apply it to one’s own advancement – to achieve worldly success. A higher purpose is to fit one to live the intellectual life…A third and the highest purpose of acquiring knowledge is to use it for the benefit of mankind.” — Former UW President Charles Van Hise
