Centering Civic Engagement: Diving into Democratic Participation on Campus with Kathy Cramer

Posted on November 15, 2021 | By Erin Gretzinger

GridgeFridge — the Morgridge Center for Public Service podcast — released the fourth episode of its second season about centering civic engagement on campus with former Morgridge Center Faculty Director Kathy Cramer.

Cramer started working in the Department of Political Science at UW–Madison in 2000 and served as the Morgridge Center faculty director for three years. During her time at the Morgridge Center, she helped develop the BadgersVote Coalition, which unites individuals and departments across the city of Madison to promote civic engagement on campus. Cramer is well-known in the academic community for her research on individuals’ perception of their place in politics.

In this episode of GridgeFridge, we talk with Cramer about her research, her achievements during her time at the Morgridge Center, and different ways students can stay civically engaged on campus.

To learn more about how you can get civically engaged in the Madison community during and outside election seasons, check out the BadgersVote webpage or follow @badgersvote on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.

  • “The least commendable purpose of acquiring knowledge…is to apply it to one’s own advancement – to achieve worldly success. A higher purpose is to fit one to live the intellectual life…A third and the highest purpose of acquiring knowledge is to use it for the benefit of mankind.” — Former UW President Charles Van Hise
