Music, Arts and Community: Voterpalooza

Posted on October 4, 2024 | By Xai Xiong

The biggest civic engagement event of the year was on full display at Voterpalooza on Tuesday, Oct. 1.

Designed to promote civic engagement and increase voter turnout at UW–Madison for the Nov. 5 presidential election, Voterpalooza was an opportunity to engage students in music and the arts, build community in the Madison area, support cultural enrichment and most importantly, promote civic engagement.

Featured local musicians and student artists included: Jexizis (featuring Toshi.splus, Josiah!, Kai Kurokawa, and breezo2xx), Boxing Day, DEEP DIVE, Madison Youth Poet Laureate and Justin Festge Russell.

“It was a wonderful opportunity for students and community members to learn about voting and civic engagement, support local student musicians, register to vote and prepare to be informed and active citizens,” Voter Engagement Intern Kayley Bell says.

If students are still looking for in-person voter registration events, they can visit any of these locations Tuesdays and Thursdays through Oct. 15 and register with City of Madison election officials.

See below for photos from the event and how students celebrated civic engagement.

  • “The least commendable purpose of acquiring knowledge…is to apply it to one’s own advancement – to achieve worldly success. A higher purpose is to fit one to live the intellectual life…A third and the highest purpose of acquiring knowledge is to use it for the benefit of mankind.” — Former UW President Charles Van Hise
