Are you looking for a way to make a difference in the Madison community and meet and connect with new people and fellow students?
If you are, Badger Volunteers is a unique program that helps students engage with organizations on and off-campus and give back to the broader Madison community—all while gaining hands-on experience and building their resumes.
The 11-week program is structured so students can create a deeper connection to their volunteer site and foster the value of sustainable service, trying to steer away from the typical, one-and-done volunteerism model.
Whatever area students are interested in, there is a partner organization for them. Whether that be in the educational sector, public health, or general interest in service, Badger Volunteers has a wide variety of placements that ensure you are passionate about the organization you are serving.
This could mean that as an education major you may be placed in a classroom, helping to tutor second graders, or for people interested in healthcare, you might be volunteering at a local elderly care facility, ensuring that patients get the care they deserve.
The program is open to all students, all majors and is a safe, structured environment to explore potential careers and give back to the community you are a part of.

Support and Guidance Guaranteed
For those who are apprehensive about starting something new by yourself, have no fear. You will be part of a team of at least two other students, led by a designated team leader who will facilitate consistent communication and on-site support, ensuring your questions are answered and needs are met.
Volunteers will also take part in workshops and training sessions as well as social events that give you time to reflect on your service and connect with volunteers who you don’t see at your site. Games, free food, and activities all combine to create an environment that builds the volunteer network far and wide across campus.
To ensure that any barriers to participation are minimized, transportation assistance is also provided. The Morgridge Center provides free transportation to and from your site if it is farther than 35 minutes by walking or bus. You will be provided with a Union Cab, Lyft or UW–Madison fleet vehicle. Additionally, all volunteers have free access to the electric B-Cycles across campus, offering another accessible manner of transportation.

Spots in the program operate on a first-come, first-served basis and are limited, so don’t wait to join. If you want to make an impact on your local community, develop as a leader and individual among new friends and like-minded peers, sign up today.
Registration for Fall 2025 opens Monday, Aug 25 and closes on Friday, Sept. 12. Visit the Badger Volunteers website to read more about our programs and partners!
